felicity '10

An excitement in the mind of every IIITian....

A festival for IIIT-H family and which is supposed to put up what IIIT-H means to the world...
students searching for every possible way to get into volunteering, be it for the cause of the college or for the t-shirts :-)....

speculations on who was finally going to be on the stage for the celebrity nights...
campaigning teams...stalls teams....and what not, people were involved in every possible way for the preparations of felicity.

And then the date comes closer.....campus decoration work is on and then the excitement in the campus was also visible......

Finally the 19th day of february... I woke up to my friends phone call.He told me that he was in IIIT for a robotics event. After some time the competition was on and the prelims were going on...And the results were out.. and his team was disqualified.

He was not sad about it.He said that he got used used to these things...winnning in some colleges and then losing at some other colleges...

But then he put up some interesting observations which i thought were very essential for a college like IIIT which actually sets standards in the education industry..
He said that the roborally tracks that he saw at various other local and national colleges were very very competitive and complicated than what he had seen here..
The main event track which was here was put up as a preliminary track at other local colleges like CBIT and MVSR etc..
The method of selections through the prelims was also very weird they said..
they just checked the speed of the robot while keeping aside the torque og the motors and other issues like traction and weight..
What robot is it if tihas speed but cant climb a wedge and has no traction in it.....

An other friend of mine who was volunteering for paper presentation section was complainig about the small room without a micro phone, which was provided for the participants..

There were many such incidents which came to light during the post felicity discussion..

It turned out that the focus was mainly upon the major nights of the felicity where a mojor amount of funds was spent and all the technical events took up a back seat...
There are issues which need some serious considerations if Felicity will have to go to a level which we want to.

If I were made one of the coordinators of felicity...........

> Our institute puts up itself as a research institute..now that doesnt mean that we do research all the time and that our bread and butter.People need to know that we are actually interested in innovative ideas from people around us..
To promote innovative thinking amongst the peer colleges:
>There would be an event inviting innovations for some preset common life problems, social problems, technical issues and other complications we face today..
>Standards in robotic competition would set higher..
>Colleges would be invited to put up their research projects here so that more students can know what research is going on in their field of interest..
>For people who are interested in small bussiness ideas, there would be a competition inviting more innovative ideas in that sector.
One of the most significant thing which was evident while the fest was going on was that there was no precedence given for technical events..This I say because there seems to be a very low prize money allocated for the technical events where people put up a higher amount into their projects.

The student turn up was also evidently from the local colleges but not from national colleges. This is actually a very important thing because, if u want tour college to be projected a college with standards competing with other national colleges there must be intereaction with those colleges during our fest.

> There can be general quizzes conducted in the areas of computer sci engg and elec engg..,current affairs etc.
>The main issue is that technical events must be put at a higher priority than where they are being put now.
>There could be one more change made in the celebrity night part.
A nominal entry fees for the celebrity night can be charged and then all the money can be diverted into a fund named felicity relief fund which could be used during times of drought or floods or any natural disaster or even as donation to social organisations..

There are many more changes and developments that could be made.....
Coming Up soon.......

Do u accept or follow-Hows ur choice made???

Had the same previous discussion...... about "making the choice"
We had some points that popped out that days about how people choose a commodity and where they choose it from.....
Some of them were:-
Quality
Price
etc
On actual revisit to the topic,it actually revealed that there are many more aspects that must be considered in order to make a right choice...
Quality
Source-grown from fertilizers or organic farming
where do they come from?
who produces them and who are the people behind it
how do the people get affected from what we buy
and much more stuff...

A retail outlet actually stores them for about two days coz he has all the facilities like the cold storage and other storage facilities, while the local shop keeper does not have any chance of storing vegetables....so he must dispose them off on the same day he buys them from the source....So theres less chance of buying stale vegetables...

There are many more choices that can be made through analysis in this way.
The point is that when we just look at ourselves it appears as if we are developing but the thing is that only when we give importance to the next level, that is the people and the environment related to the commodity, the possibilty of deevlopment can be seen.

People these days are so mean about the life and the surroundings around them, they dont even know that they are ruining the place they live in.
There are some ways which we can actually know if we are making the right choice or not:
Know the source of the commodity we are are buying
Know who are actually involved in making it
Know if we are paying for the brand or for the quality
.....

How does it actually affect us??
Locally grown food does not have to be transported from place to place..so no waste of fuel....
Organically grown food does not contain any harmful chemicals which affect the human body...
now finding it is a bit difficult these days but yes...it can be found(fertilsers are already deteriorating the quality of soil)
It is not the brand owner who gets benefited by us but the poor little farmer and the local sabjiwala....
and there are many more points that can be considered for our choice in any commodity..

We even discussed about the food w actually chose to eat.
While we have samosa, puff, fruit salad, fruit juice etc...
which one do we actually choose to eat.
It turns out that most of the times we prefer taste over quality and purity of food.
This is something to be thought of by every one...

And so here ended the discussion leaving every one thinking about what they are doing is right or not

Betterment or Betrayal??

Monday 1st february
Human values
This is when we had a discussion regarding globalisation and opening up of Indian markets for the other nations of the world.
We had a discussion on"Did India really develop by its acts during late 80s".People thought it was a good job done by India through which it can develop at a faster pace and people can have a better life.
This an important thing to be noticed by all the citizens of India.
Yes india did develop but the difference between the rich and the poor had actually remained the same or rather had grown by the time we noticed it to be.
The thing to be noticed that ,yes India did grow but in accordance to a rather false parameter which actually soesnot account to the growth if seen closer.
How is this??
People from all ove the world who had big capital to invest in their bussiness came into India and then gradually started to become famous among the people.Local dealers neither manage their bussiness with a great amouint of margin nor do not publicise as much as the others do.
This turned into an important setback for the localites.
People became attracted towards the famous brands and then the local dealers became less famous as if they manufactured lower quality products.
If visualised properly there are a very few jeans brands which are Indian.
Sports wear is almost nil interms of Indian owned companies.
India doesnt even have a single sofware product company.
And even more.....
Many soft drink compaies are not Indian.
Another point of discussion was "Are we attracted towards famous products or quality products??"
sandals from a branded company come at a higher price than those of a local manufacturer.Even then people tend to go for a branded one.
This is some thing not to be accused of but has to be decided by the individual himself about what his choice has to be.
The whole point boils down to an inportant point:
"Are we trying to bring up the poor of the country or are we trying to make money for the rich man??"
Betterment or Betrayal....?

why dont people try to realize that they have to do something for the society in which they live in

all life they are busy in their growth and stuff but donot gie imortance to social obligations and by the time they try to do so they are old

so what changes need to be bought out in society so that oor come up and there is equality every where

at the end of the day we dont even care abt the environment we live in and we act harsh on in
why dont we try to preserve it

parents give more imortance to their social status through their children than children's hapyness

and many more...
Just was about to complete my holidays and had to join in my engg college.
i was still trying to see myself as to what i am presently and what my potential was.
